This month I wanted to take a few moments to discuss several exciting technology innovations that are happening at West Side Elementary. Last year, we finished installing Promethean boards in every classroom and a wireless computer network. In the past two years, we have also added new computers to our computer lab and some classrooms. We have also added IPADS, ELMO document cameras, and new listening centers in many of our classrooms. We are in the process of adding more IPADS and ELMO’s this year and in the next few years, so that all of our students can benefit from this new technology. Finally, we have added new math software to help our students master math facts, fractions, and other math skills and concepts. We hope that your child will be able to access some of this new software outside of school hours from home and/or the public library.
All of these new technology tools have been and will be purchased from a variety of sources. We are using funds from the federal Title I program, School Improvement funds, local ESPLOST funds, and fundraiser funds from our coupon book sale last fall. We are very excited that the future looks so bright for our students and hope that you can come volunteer at our school to see some of the new tools in action. If you have comments, suggestions, or questions about how we can use technology to help our students learn, please feel free to contact me by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at 706.866.9211.
